The Dallas game would mark the first Winter Classic in the south.
Why were the Stars on the NHL's radar for an event like this?
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman made the official announcement during the second intermission of the 2019 Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins at Notre Dame Stadium. That matchup will take place at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan, on October 26, 2019.More news: Second child dies in custody - US immigration authorities

The B's won't be at 100% at Notre Dame Stadium, either, as first-pair defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward David Backes are set to miss the game.
The Boston Bruins won the franchise's second Winter Classic on Tuesday, so there's plenty to celebrate. The opponents for the Avalanche, as well as the date, have yet to be announced. It would be similar to the 2011 Heritage Classic in Calgary when the Flames faced the Montreal Canadiens, followed the next day by a WHL game featuring the Pats and Calgary Hitmen. The game continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2020 edition marking the 12-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic® in Buffalo.
Regina's outdoor game would be staged by Evraz Place, which operates Mosaic Stadium on behalf of the City of Regina. The 1988 and 1970 games were held at the St. Louis Arena.
