Rockstar trumpets $725m Red Dead Redemption 2 sales

"Red Dead Redemption 2" also tallied the biggest full game sales marks for one and for three days on Sony's PlayStation Network, Rockstar said. GTA 5 sold over $1 billion in a three day period, but that game was released on a Tuesday. Now, Rockstar's critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 joins the ranks with a staggering opening weekend of $725 million in sales.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter noted that the sales figures imply around 12 million units sold at launch. There have been few games with three-day sell-through announcements, so it is hard to gauge what the first few days of sales imply about the potential lifetime sales for a given game.
