Minutes After Wishing Everyone Happy Thanksgiving, Trump Criticizes Chief Justice John Roberts

"There certainly could and it will be about border security, of which the wall is a part", Trump told reporters in Palm Beach, Florida.

"When they lose control of the border on the Mexico side, we just close the border", Trump said, further explaining that means Mexico will "not be able to sell their cars into the United States".

Trump called it "a really bad situation" there and said that "if we find that it's incontrollable", then "we will close entry into the country for period of time until we can get it under control".

It was yet another show of how Mr Trump dramatically transformed the presidency, erasing the traditional divisions between domestic policy and military matters and efforts to keep the troops clear of politics. "We actually just closed it, said nobody's coming in because it was just out of control". And he threatened to shut down the entire US-Mexico border over the approach of the few thousand migrants.

Judges like to think they came down from Olympus, bereft of the ugly little prejudices that bedevil the rest of us.

Roberts had refused to comment on Trump's earlier attacks on judges, including the chief justice himself.

Trump also once again undermined the CIA's assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible for the murder of Khashoggi, insisting the agency did not conclude bin Salman was responsible.

As American families were getting together to share a turkey feast and give thanks for the things they hold dear, such as God and loved ones, Trump, too, had plenty of opportunity to say some banal phrase in line with the carefree holiday mood and avoid castigation.

"I have no choice", Trump said, and, without providing evidence, added, "You're dealing with a minimum of 500 serious criminals" and "rough people".

The law prohibits the federal government from using the armed forces in a domestic police role, except in cases and under circumstances specifically authorized by the Constitution or Congress.

The president has been railing against the migrant caravan that has been making its way from Central America to the USA border. It is out of control, has a terrible reputation, is overturned more than any circuit in the country, 79%, and is used to get an nearly guaranteed result.

Roberts' statement responding to Trump, while assumedly well-meaning, speaks to the myopia of a man who has been removed from the life of an ordinary American for far too long. It would be great if the 9th Circuit was indeed an 'independent judiciary, ' but if it is why are so many opposing view (on Border and Safety) cases filed there, and why are a vast number of those cases overturned. We need protection and security - these rulings are making our country unsafe!
