The Indian team management on Saturday named the 12-member team for the opening Twenty20 worldwide at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, K Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh Yadav.

The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder was conspicuous by his absence as a 13-member West Indies squad led by Carlos Brathwaite sweated it out under lights this evening.

Keeping in mind the World T20 in 2020, India have picked three uncapped players (Krunal, S Nadeem and Khaleel) for this and the Australia series, aside from bringing back the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar to the squad.

West Indies have gotten the better of India in their recent meetings. The Caribbeans enjoy a 5-2 head-to-head record against India in T20Is.

The stand-in captain has a world record score of 264 in ODIs at the Eden Gardens in 2014, besides winning two IPL titles, in 2013 and 2015.

Left-hander Darren Bravo, meanwhile, has not played worldwide cricket in two years because of a protracted dispute with Cricket West Indies, and the last of his 12 T20s came four years ago.

Hetmyer, 21, is also in superb form scoring 259 runs in the ODI series including the counter-attacking 106 in Guwahati.

Preview: The "end of Dhoni era" notion has been dismissed unequivocally but then India, for the first time, will still be without the figure with a monumental body of work when they face West Indies in the opening T20 International Sunday. The Eden track promises a run feast with a bit of grass on the surface affording even bounce and the ball expected to come on to the bat nicely. On October 12, Russell took to Instagram to mention that he was heading back home early from the APL, indicating a problem with his knees. The hosts thumped Windies in the Test and ODI series respectively and will look to finish off on victory in the T20I series as well. The latter has only two wins to its credit while one match was abandoned.

Here's a look at the predicted playing XIs of both teams.
