Dez Bryant lands one-year contract with surging New Orleans Saints

Bryant's signing with Saints also officially marks the end of an era in Dallas.

The wide receiver was struggling after joining the Saints, however, with zero targets over the past three games.

The NFL's best offense got even better on Wednesday after the Saints agreed to terms with Dez Bryant.

"What matters is, what are we going to do for the next eight games?" said Watson, who played for the Patriots when running back Corey Dillon arrived with a reputation as a malcontent from Cincinnati in 2004 and helped New England win a Super Bowl. He remains under contract with the Saints through 2019. They took on Teddy Bridgewater's contract-one larger than they usually pay for a backup-for insurance for Brees while sending away their third-round pick.

Bryant's return to the National Football League with the Saints means he could play against his former club in a few weeks. His 7,459 career receiving yards rank fifth in team history. He had previously turned down offers from the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Bryant visited New Orleans on Monday, working out with fellow wideouts Brandon Marshall and Kamar Aiken.

Those numbers may not look as good as what fans have come to expect from Bryant over the years, but they are still a solid addition for an already dynamic Saints' offense. "We worked out some players yesterday, which we do every week". From the people who love this game, who've played, they can understand that about it being somewhat harder for other people to figure that out.

But here's the thing: the other guys aren't playing that well. Although he'll take a backseat to Thomas, there's a major opportunity due to the lack of depth at receiver on the Saints now. New Orleans signed Meredith to a two-year, $9.5 million deal in the offseason to be the No. 2 receiver. Tre'Quan Smith, a third-round pick previous year, has the second-most receiving yards for a wideout this season for the Saints at just 214 yards. Similarly, the team understood that a solid defense could key on Thomas in the postseason and leave them fighting with one hand.

Bryant's former teammates on the Cowboys wished him the best in his new gig Wednesday.

Dez, 30, will get a chance to go up against his former team in Week 13, when the Dallas Cowboys host the New Orleans Saints in a Thursday night matchup.
