Jets vs. Lions: Final Week 1 injury and weather report

Detroit was blown out 48-17 by the Jets after Matthew Stafford threw four interceptions and Matt Prater missed a 44-yard field goal.

When running back Crowell, another offseason free-agent pickup, took a routine handoff 62 yards to paydirt for his second touchdown of the night in the final minute of the third quarter, it looked like the Lions just gave up. "I have to do a better job".

The Jets quarterback finished with respectable figures of 198 yards from 16 completions out of 21 attempts, including two touchdowns.

That decidedly Jets drought came to an end on Monday.

Lee said the Jets had a read on Detroit's signals.

There's still al lot of work that needs to be done before Darnold is up there with the likes of Namath, but this is a great start for a team who waited too long for a franchise quarterback.

For Lee, the often-criticized Jets' first-round pick in 2016 out of Ohio State, it marked the first two interceptions of his National Football League career. "I could sit here and tell you we planned it to get the jitters out, but we didn't". Darron Lee returned an interception for a touchdown, and Andre Roberts scored on a 78-yard punt return 67 seconds later.

The Jets rubbed salt in the wounds after the game by mocking the Lions, saying they easily figured out Detroit's signals and knew what plays were coming for much of the evening. "A couple good plays aren't going to win games".

I know it's hard to believe, but in reality, Darnold had very little to do with it after his 20-yard dart off a rollout to wide receiver Terrelle Pryor (another newcomer) set up the Enunwa catch-and-run that gave the Jets the lead for good. Stafford went 27 of 46 for 286 yards, but it was his first four-interception game since 2013. But Stafford is the proven man here, and with a revamped supporting cast in the backfield, he should be able to capitalize on a takeaway or two to help the Lions start with a "W".

"He's always smooth under pressure, he doesn't get rattled, so we weren't anxious whatsoever", Lee said.

Darnold joined Tampa Bay's Jameis Winston (2015) and Brett Favre (1991) as quarterbacks who had their first pass intercepted and returned for a score.

TAKE THE QUIZ: Which Jets Player Are You Most Like?

Sam Darnold's first snap as QB of the New York Jets was a historic one.

The Lions ended up with 39 yards on 15 carries. Leonard Williams, first-round pick in 2015; Lee, first-round pick in 2016; and Jamal Adams, first-round pick in 2017.

Lions: Visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Breaking Sam Darnold in slowly, so if they have the ball, I could see it ending in a run.
