The back of Xiaomi flagship Mi 8 transparent Explorer Edition is seen during a product launch in Shenzhen, China May 31, 2018.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition (EE) is the first Xiaomi phone to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Rumours are rife that the company might unveil a low-end model Mi 8 SE with watered down specifications.

Is the Xiaomi Mi 8 coming the UK? Previously only available on select Xiaomi phones like the full- screen Mi Mix 2 and Mi Mix 2s, these fullscreen gestures will seemingly become available for all devices. With the addition of the new size, Xiaomi now offers the Mi TV 4 in four sizes: 55-inch, 65-inch, 49-inch and 75-inch.

The Mi 8 is the main handset in the series, but it's not quite the most impressive. The 6.21-inch 2248 x 1080 display is an AMOLED panel with a brightness of 600 nits and an 88.5% (18.7:9) screen-to-body ratio. It's not surprising since we've been hearing about the new Xiaomi Android phone the past few months. The Mi Band 3 sports a somewhat different design to the Mi Band 3, as it's considerably more curved than the Mi Band 2, while a capacitive key is included here as well, though it blends into the design of the Mi Band 3 far more than it was the case with the Mi Band 2.

Xiaomi is also launching two other iterations of its new flagship: the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and the Mi 8 SE. The Mi 8 looks like a great, competitively priced smartphone.

The phone in the front is the Mi 8 SE.

Xiaomi claims the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is the first Android device to feature three-dimensional face unlock, using infrared light (the first device ever being the iPhone X, of course). It's a real shame they likely won't hit the US. Around the back, you'll see the phone's dual camera system is stacked vertically, er - just like that on the iPhone X. In comparison, the Mi 8 comes with the same amount of RAM, but it is available in the 64, 128 and 256GB storage models. It's also the first smartphone with a Snapdragon 710 processor. This means that the company could have done away with the notch for this "Special Edition" variant. Xiaomi also boasts that its camera setup has achieved a DxO Mark score of 99, with a score of 105 in the photography department along.

The tech behind the face unlocking is also used for Xiaomi's version of Apple's animojis - so if you're looking for an Android phone that can do Apple's animoji - well, here it is. Honor 10 also has face unlock with a home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Currently, it is not know what all languages the virtual assistant understands, although chances are that the Chinese will be definitely supported. The TV will be going on sale in China at a price of Yuan 8,999.
