Whittaker Makes the Mark; Romero Does Not

Moving along to this past Friday (June 8, 2018), Romero missed weight for his rematch against UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in the main event of the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view event that is slated to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Romero also failed to meet the 185-pound requirement in February for an interim middleweight title fight against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221.

"It's great in one sense, that Rob can't lose the belt but obviously we wanted to fight for the title".

The path to UFC 225 has been winding, to say the least.

Whittaker, who claimed a unanimous decision over Romero last July, was asked earlier this week about the recent spate of missed weights among his UFC peers.

Camera IconCan Robert Whittaker overcome Yoel Romero? "In Spanish, he said that he only wants to fight for the title". Soldier of God ultimately won that bout via third-round knockout. But you can't miss weight twice on two title fights and still think you're running the show.

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said.

"This fight, as far as I'm concerned, I have 25 minutes to try to finish him - and I'm going to use every single second of those minutes to try to achieve that".

"But I tell you what, I've got a bag of new tricks that I'm looking forward to bringing out and throwing at him".

Chief among the issues was Saturday's UFC 225 main event.

Australian Megan Anderson and her featherweight opponent - former bantamweight world champion Holly Holm - each logged the same weight.
