Suns make Bahamas' Ayton the top pick in National Basketball Association draft

Then it's Sacramento, Atlanta, Memphis and Dallas, and any of them could consider a player who's only 19 but has been playing against some of the toughest competition outside the National Basketball Association for years.

It's unfortunate that any draft day should warrant this kind of criticism because, after all, it should be about the players selected, a majority of whom are younger than half of UCSB's undergrads.

"We're very hungry", Ayton said. Former Michigan State big man Jaren Jackson Jr. was one of those players, as he was selected with the No. 4 overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 19-year-old lacks professional experience, but Altman pointed out that James dealt with that issue this season.

On top of it all, ESPN reporter and columnist Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted out virtually every pick before it happened, which only cheapens the draft coverage itself even further. This is a player, who does most of his damage in the paint, which is why he's one of college basketball's top interior scorers.

The starters for the Overwatch League All-Star game have been revealed. If the Suns don't bring in a stopgap starter in free agency, Okobo could have a chance to make a significant impact as a rookie. Sacramento ranked last in Pace and bottom-five both in Offensive and Defensive Efficiency last season, so there's only room for growth from this "young super team". Raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, before attending high school at Brennan in San Antonio, Texas, his mother is a 25-year veteran of the Air Force.

Ayton, who said he knew he was going to be the No. 1 pick after working out for the Suns on June 6, said he was still blown away when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called his name.

According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7, the Suns were planning to select Villanova guard Donte DiVincenzo with the second of their two first-round picks, but the Philadelphia 76ers presented them with a trade offer they couldn't refuse. However, he's a gifted athlete who - though his skill set is still raw - has shown flashes of ability as a playmaker, scorer, and defender.

Collegiate power Duke had four players picked with Bagley, Wendell Carter Jr at number seven with Chicago and Grayson Allen going 21st with Utah in the first round and Gary Trent Jr to Portland in the second round.

Between his outstanding physical profile and the 20.1 points per game he averaged on 61.2% shooting during his lone season with the Wildcats, it's easy to see why the Suns were enamored with Ayton. He can also pass out of a double team. "Obviously, growing up here in Phoenix, playing at Hillcrest (Prep) a little bit and playing at the UofA, we watched him very closely".

As for the Kings, leave it to this team to somehow mess this No. 2 pick up, it has been notoriously horrendous at scouting, drafting and player development.

Ayton was discovered locally at the Jeff Rodgers Summer Basketball Camp before he headed to Balboa City School in San Diego, California.

President and CEO of the Suns Jason Rowley believes Ayton's Arizona ties may prove to be financially beneficial for the franchise.
