Xiaomi planning separate camera division for its smartphones

The phone has all the features of a premium phone while also being in the budget category. Say hello to the Redmi S2. The Redmi Y2 is likely to be the successor of the Redmi Y1.

After launching the Redmi S2 smartphone in China, Xiaomi looks all set to introduce the handset in the Indian market. The device is expected to launch in May and we can expect the teaser in the next few days.

Talking about the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. The price details for India have not been revealed. There is good chance that the S2, when launched in India, could sport a similar (or a lesser) price tag. Well, the upper variant can have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage. This enables you to have enough expandable storage of up to 256G. With a enormous 5.99-inch display at the front and a' metal design, it is hard to differentiate it from a flagship.

The 5.99-inch HD + IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is absolutely awesome with clear explanations. Redmi S2 has a 720×1440 pixels resolution while the Redmi Note 5 has 1080×2160 pixels and Redmi 5 owns same resolution i.e 720×1440 pixels. This results in a PPI density of 269. This is a positive point of the phone that makes it different with Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5.

It may be recalled that the Redmi S2 was launched in China this month. According to some earlier reports, the company to call the device as Xiaomi Mi 8, as it comes out as the 8th-anniversary edition smartphone of Xiaomi. For optics, there's a rear dual camera setup which includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture along with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The company has put the focus on the selfie camera with the Redmi S2, which features a 16MP front camera with pixel size of 2µm and AI-driven Portrait mode. "Huawei's Honor 9 Lite also made into the top 5 online models in its debut quarter 2018Q1", Jaipal Singh, Senior Market Analyst, IDC India said in a statement.

Coming to the hardware, the phone is powered by a 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU.

- The phone comes with a 3GB RAM and also with a 4GB RAM. We will know more about the workings of the cameras and sensors in the notch when they release the phone on May 23.
