Serena Williams Can't Resist Paris

Other top tennis players have supported Serena Williams by saying that the former No. 1 player, who was unseeded at the French Open and at two previous tournaments this year after her maternity leave, should have received greater consideration from tennis officials.

Wozniacki is the second seed in Paris, behind only Simona Halep, who she beat in the Australian Open final and is still searching for a Grand Slam crown.

Former world number one Williams, now ranked a lowly 453, will be playing a Grand Slam for the first time since her victory at the 2017 Australian Open, after which she stepped off the tour to give birth to her daughter in September.

Williams is a three-time French Open champion. "If you're like finished or you stopped because you're going to have a child and you will be in top eight, I think you should have this kind of thing, to have protected seeding", Svitolina said recently.

"Certainly when I was playing you nearly didn't allow yourself to think about having children while you were playing, because there wasn't the assistance available", she said.

Ohanian has been based in San Francisco since relocating their from Brooklyn some years ago, but he and Serena and their daughter have been spending most of their postpartum time in Florida-though signs seem to be pointing due west, at least some day.

The news comes after Williams told Vogue she suffered various health complications, including a pulmonary embolism, shortly after she gave birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia.

"The benefit of being seeded is that she won't play another seed until probably the fourth round". She was not seeded at tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, and compiled two wins and two losses. Serena, who was ranked No. 1 before giving birth in 2017, is now ranked at No. 453.

But the decision of whether to give that player a seed remains up to tournament organisers. Without a seeding, Williams was placed in the same quarter of the draw as Sharapova, who is unseeded too. It's more than tennis, ' she added. But she will, I'm sure, be encouraged to see she can not face a top-10 player before the fourth round.
