Iowa native Maddie Poppe wins 'American Idol'

And even though the American Idol season 1 finale just happened, we know you're already missing your favorite contestants.

Just prior to the announcement of Maddie Poppe's victory, runner-up Caleb Hutchison revealed that the two are dating.

During an October interview on Good Morning America, the judges opened up about working on the American Idol revivial, and discussed what they were planning to look for on their journey to find undiscovered talent.

The singer-songwriter, of Clarksville, bested Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Gabby Barrett in Monday night's two-hour finale on ABC.

After shocking judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan with the dating news, Caleb and Maddie performed a stripped-down version of "Over the Rainbow".

Poppe, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Iowa, claimed the Idol title over her 19-year-old beau, who is a musician from Dallas, Texas. He wrote that he is honored to call Maddie his, and also included an "I love you" at the end. "And she actually happens to be my girlfriend". Don't forget about me.

"Well, Maddie is my pal and I've known her since the beginning of Hollywood week", Hutchinson said.

The evening closed with Poppe winning $250,000 and a recording contract. "I really did because my music is not mainstream, and so to know that I pulled this off just doing what I love and I didn't have to change myself is pretty incredible". "I made friends on that show who are some of my best friends and I know we'll be lifelong friends ... and I met my boyfriend", she said.
