Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for the upcoming comedy Life of the Party. Not only does McCarthy star in the movie, but her husband, Ben Falcone, directed it.

"I don't regret staying home and being your mom", she tells her kids in the trailer, "but I regret not getting my degree".

New Line will release Life of the Party on Mother's Day weekend, May 11, where it should do well among mothers who may be able to relate to McCarthy's need for some life-altering changes. The duo embark on a wild journey, alongside Maddie's college friends, one of whom is played by Gillian Jacobs.

After her husband unexpectedly leaves her, McCarthy's character, Deanna, decides to follow her daughter, Maddie (Molly Gordon), to college.

Falcone and McCarthy reunited with The Boss' director of photography Julio Macat and production designer Rusty Smith for Life of the Party. Debuting on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Monday, February 5, the nearly-two-minute trailer kicks off with Deanna collecting a huge pile of remembrances of her married life and setting them on fire. That's especially true since its early summer premiere date could position it as solid counter programming nestled in between the likes of Avengers: Infinity War and the Deadpool sequel.

It's been a while since I've seen Melissa McCarthy headline anything, so I guess we were due for another vehicle meant to propel her to the top of the Hollywood comedy heap.
