Amb. Matthew Rycroft, UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated this ahead of the Security Council Briefing on the Middle East and vote on the draft resolution sponsored by Egypt.

The Egyptian-drafted text reiterated the United Nations position on Jerusalem, affirming "that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered, the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council".

"We declare our rejection of the United States as a political mediator because it has sided with Israel".

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas the USA should no longer be involved in brokering a Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.

The US and the worldwide community have long maintained that the solution to the Middle East conflict would be the formation of a Palestinian state - alongside the Israeli one - with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Trump's decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was a sovereign decision and "fully in line" with previous Security Council resolutions, Haley added.

Key US allies Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Ukraine were among the 14 countries in the 15-member council that voted in favor of the measure put forward by Egypt. He said he hopes for "overwhelming support" telling the Trump administration that the worldwide community doesn't accept the US position, which he said violates global law and Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. She described the vote as an "insult" that "won't be forgotten". "It should be an embarrassment to the remainder of the Security Council". However, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley reacted angrily to the measure. And she insisted that this position "is fully in line with the previous Security Council resolutions".

"We are ready to become an honest mediator here", he said.

The resolution that was vetoed would have called on "all states to refrain from the establishment of diplomatic missions in the holy city of Jerusalem", citing a 1980 council resolution.

"Given the chance to vote again", said Haley to the Council, "I can say with complete confidence, we would vote no and exercise our veto power".

The resolution also called for reversing the "negative trends on the ground that are imperilling the two-State solution" for Arab-Israeli dispute.

And then hope that PA President Mahmoud Abbas - the guy who premised his Ph.D. thesis on denying the existence of the Holocaust - will "control" Hamas, the virulently anti-Semitic offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, which in its 1988 charter - and affirmed every year to this very day - refuses to recognize the State of Israel's right to exist and is committed to jihad to destroy every last vestige of Israel and every Jew on earth.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video on his Twitter account in which he thanked Haley for the United States veto. One defeated the many.
