Penn State to play Washington in Fiesta Bowl

This is Penn State's seventh appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, which is the most of any bowl in program history.

Penn State is a ideal 6-0 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Penn State is returning to the scene of one of its greatest all-time victories after accepting an invitation Sunday to play Washington of the Pac 12 in the Fiesta Bowl on December 30 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Washington and Penn State will meet in the postseason for the second time.

Penn State last played in the Fiesta Bowl in 1997, beating Texas 38-15. Honest thanks to the Fiesta Bowl Committee and all the volunteers for their hospitality and work to make this bowl experience possible.

Iowa had beaten Penn State 12 straight times in Iowa City and on Saturday night it looked like the Hawkeyes were closing in on making it 13 as the Nittany Lions leaned on the ropes. That game was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

"We are looking forward to heading to Fiesta Bowl and we are very grateful to the Fiesta Bowl Committee for the opportunity", Penn State Head Coach James Franklin said.

The No. 9 Nittany Lions and the No. 11 Huskies were selected on Sunday after the announcement of the final four teams selected for the 4 team championship playoffs.

Penn State and Washington both finished the regular season with a 10-2 record.
