Light snow, rain early Monday, turning mostly cloudy

On Sunday, the Triangle had a high of 51 and a low of 27.

Winds will be light to moderate, fresh in parts of the west and southwest, however, there will be some sunny spells in places.

A mix of clouds and sun on Saturday, with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Rain will continue overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Sunny, dry, and warmer Wednesday, with highs in the mid-70s. "While this is subject to change (and likely will) IF I had to put a number to how much snow we could see, I would say 2" would be the absolute max but most spots would see less than 1".

Temperatures zoomed to 50 degrees Tuesday afternoon, melting away even more of our snowpack. After morning clouds, we should see some sunshine by afternoon. Highs into the 40s to near 50 degrees!

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy skies and cool temperatures will be around for Thursday, with a high of 53 degrees for our first official day of winter.

Clouds will increase and thicken on Friday as the atmosphere moistens as winds shift from the southeast. Rain chances should hold off until the morning hours. Now model guidance is suggesting some portions of northern Kansas may get clipped by some rain, but the snow will stay further up north in Nebraska and the Dakotas.

"Christmas Day is looking quite cold", Packingham said, noting people with pets will want to take precautions. But we're watching closely.

More patchy fog is expected overnight.

Rest of the week: As of now, it appears that we will have dry weather on Thursday before the next wave of heavy rain settles into the area on Friday. Expect numbers to drop into the low 30s, maybe some upper 20s in outlying areas. The chances for a white Christmas continue to rise as we edge closer to the big day. Highs only climb into the low-mid 30's Saturday and Sunday with upper 20's taking over Christmas Day.
