A bit of horseplay forced the hand of a Los Angeles bomb squad Saturday night after a suspicious Christmas gift-wrapped package was found on the doorstep of the Bel-Air home of Steve Mnuchin.

The package found about 5:30 965 Bel Aire Road contained manure, Sgt. R. Briggs of the LAPD West Los Angeles Station said.

Treasury Secretary nominee, Steven Mnuchin, testifies during his Senate Finance committee confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill, on January 19, 2017 in Washington, DC.

The suspicious package, which was signed from "the American people", was filled with horse manure. Police did not release further information about the package.

His wife, Louise Linton, once went viral for belittling a woman on Instagram for making less money than her, and later this year, the couple again made headlines when they posed with a sheet of money in a photo widely mocked on social media.

Mnuchin is protected by the Secret Service, who have now taken over this investigation from the LAPD.

The large box, covered in holiday wrapping paper and addressed to Mnuchin, was left outside the home of one of his Bel Air neighbors Saturday evening, ABC 7 News reported.
