Eli Apple has become biggest story of awful New York Giants team

The Giants drafted Apple 10th overall out of Ohio State in 2016, and he had some success past year, starting the last 10 games, but 2017 has been a worse season, with off-field family drama, poor on-field play and even a fine from the team for tweeting on the sidelines.

And now, with one game left in the Giants' roller coaster season, Apple has been shut down by his own team. Besides that, the other two guys, DRC (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) and Jackrabbit (Janoris Jenkins), I love those two guys.

"I met with Coach Spags and Eli this morning and I apologized for the things I said yesterday", Collins wrote. Collins also praised the aforementioned veterans in virtually the same breath as calling out Apple.

Head coach Ben McAdoo was sacked earlier in the month.

The #NYGiants have suspended CB Eli Apple for the final week of the 2017 season.

While Apple has only logged one interception in 25 appearances over his first two seasons, his work ethic and other intangible issues have been a source of ire from others throughout the organization, earning him a trip to the bench on more than one occasion this season. They play hard. They love what they do.

But this wasn't the first time Collins has publicly criticized Apple.

The New York Post reported last month that Apple almost left the team facility after he was criticized for making bad plays during a film session.

With the way Apple's relationship with the team and his teammates appears to be going, it will be best for the two sides to part ways during the offseason whether it be by trade or release. Earlier this month, Collins said that he'd had conversations with Apple about the cornerback's struggles but, the next day, Apple denied that he had ever talked to Collins about any of that. A new regime might want to rid the team of problems and start over.

"Look, we're all grown men in there", Collins said.
