Sheriff's deputy among 1st Florida deaths from Hurricane Irma

Deputy Bridges served as a civil process deputy with the Hardee County Sheriff's Office.

She was leaving a hurricane shelter where she was assigned, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, the newspaper reported.

Sheriff's Deputy Julie Bridges, a 13-year veteran of the force, had been stationed in an evacuation shelter overnight and was driving home at about 6 a.m.to pick up more supplies when the crash occurred, Sheriff Arnold Lanier said.

No other vehicles were involved and both Bridges and Ossman were the sole occupants of their vehicles, police said.
