After a cryptic, drip-drop, almost weeklong lead-up complete with easter-eggs - like putting "ivegotablankspace" in a website's source code - created to stoke theorizing by superfans, Swift confirmed via social media that the album Reputation will arrive November 10, and fans should expect its first single Thursday night.

The star made the announcement on Instagram after she deleted all her social media and posted cryptic pictures of a snake.

She announced the news on social media, days after her social media pages went dark.

Taylor Swift finally revealed that new music is on the way! She's releasing her first single Thursday night.

The singer's last album, 1989, was released three years ago and picked up an Album of the Year Grammy. What's even better is that Swift's first single from the upcoming album will drop tomorrow, August 24! Swift herself isn't scheduled to perform during the event, but the VMAs have surprised us before. Not a bad strategy for a woman known to bury references in her liner notes.

Take, for example, the album cover for the record, which depicts Swift in grayscale, clad in a distressed sweatshirt against a backdrop of manufactured newspaper headlines.

Her new song will be eligible for next year's Grammys - but her album won't.

From "Shake It Off" to "Blank Space", much of Swift's music centers on her relationship with the public and her many perceptions.

And it appears Swift will get edgy this time around.
