This year, Eid starts on Sunday June 25 and marks the start of a month of celebration. Prophet Muhammad is believed to have received the first revelation of the Holy Quran during this month.

In addition, the Museum of the City of NY in Manhattan will be hosting an Eid al-Fitr Community Celebration on Monday 26 June from 2-5pm and there will be a Sunday celebration on Long Island, hosted by Tribal Dance and Caravan Coinnection.

The giving of money is a practice that is similar between Eid al-Fitr and Lunar New Year in the Chinese-speaking community.
