June. 16: After visiting Steve Scalise, the majority whip who was shot when a gunman opened fire during a congressional Republican baseball practice in Virginia, President Donald Trump admitted that the congressman was in a "more difficult" condition than was initially realized.
House Majority Whip Scalise, 51, was shot in the hip by a rifle-welding critic of the president who sprayed bullets on USA lawmakers practising for an annual baseball game in the Washington suburb of Alexandria.
On Wednesday morning, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson opened fire on participants of the Republican baseball practice, injuring US Scalise and four other individuals. The shooter was identified as James T. Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old home inspector from IL.
The man who shot Scalise and others at the baseball practice had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three lawmakers, according to a person familiar with the case.More news: No boost for sterling from high United Kingdom inflation numbers

"Not here, but in our thoughts and prayers, Steve Scalise", said the announcer before the game. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations.
"We are encouraged in the improvement in his condition in the last 36 hours", Sava said.
Sava said Friday that there are hundreds of bullet fragments in Scalise's body, but "we have no intention to try and remove all the bullet fragments at this point".
It emerged Hodgkinson had a social media page filled with criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration.
He said he talked with Republican team manager Joe Barton of Texas after the shooting and they agreed that that "we shouldn't let incidents like this or people like this change our routine or how we live our lives".
"He clearly knows they're there and appreciates their presence", Sava said. Griner is still hospitalized at MedStar and "in good spirits", Sava said.
In that bad crime, the country also witnessed the incredible heroism of the Capitol Police, he said, adding that Special Agent Crystal Griner - who he also met during his visit to the hospital - raced into gunfire, along with Special Agent David Bailey.
