Sonic Mania is set to release on August 15, 2017 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

We've been waiting a pretty good while for Sega's Sonic Mania, the company's throwback to the iconic hero's old-school platforming adventures. A newly released trailer shows off such gameplay elements.

As seen in the video below, Sega has put together some footage depicting hand-drawn animations of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in action that is interspersed between several segments of gameplay from the upcoming title.

Although a leak last week gave an early look at the release date, a new trailer for the game has been released today that confirms the game's new release date of August 15th. As we previously reported, Sonic Mania will have new levels and remixed versions of classic stages. You can re-live the Sonic of the past with an exciting new twist on classic zones while fighting against new bosses and Dr. Eggman's evil robot army. "Multiple playable characters give you the ability to go explosively fast as Sonic, soar as Tails, or power through tough obstacles with Knuckles' brute strength". They can also play with others, thanks to cooperative and competitive modes. "Welcome to Sonic Mania!".

The game was originally scheduled to launch in the spring, but Sega announced in March that it had delayed the platformer to this summer.

Sonic Mania is one of two Sonic the Hedgehog games coming in 2017.
