So close. But still so far.
John Wall hit a 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds left for the go-ahead basket, then hopped atop the scorer's table and yelled to celebrate at the conclusion of the Washington Wizards' 92-91 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night that pushed their Eastern Conference semifinal to a Game 7. If Boston wins, the Cavs would play there in Game 1 of the conference finals Monday.
Whether or not actual handshakes will take place between teams that dislike one another so much following Monday's Game 7 will be an interesting footnote to a series that has been hostile. "That's giving ourselves one more chance to fight and see if we can get to the Eastern Conference Finals".
John Wall finished with 21 points, 4 assists, and 4 boards.
"I thought it was going in".
"Paul Pierce reached out to me the other day and he told me that winning is hard", Thomas said.
GAME OF RUNSWith 7:13 remaining in the second, it appeared as though the Celtics were starting to find their groove a bit.
Even after Wall's clutch shot, the Celtics still had 3.5 seconds with the ball and with hope for a final opportunity. "We've got to be locked in, focused". Avery Bradley has done a tremendous job defending John Wall, and Al Horford has been dynamite defensively in the paint, but Isaiah Thomas has been a problem.More news: Longoria hits long homer; Rays hold off Red Sox 5-4

Wall ended the night with 25 points, just one shy of Bradley Beal's team-high 26. The OVER is 4-1 through the first five games of this series. Bradley and Thomas both made 3-pointers during that stretch, and they each scored 27 points for the game. While the Wizards had the appearance of a good ball movement - all 10 field goals came from assists - the offense still lacked a certain beat.
The first round of the 2015 playoffs was a long, long time ago. The Wizards fouled on Boston's initial attempt at a final play, leaving just 1.7 seconds on the clock, though video replays suggest they probably should have had additional time.
Wednesday night, the Celtics took full advantage of the distribution from Isaiah Thomas, hitting wide-open threes and midrange shots. Game 6 will be played at the Verizon Center.
The Celtics spent most of the second half playing with a lead, a position gained near the end of the second quarter. Games three and four were tough for the Celtics, but after the way the Boston crowd treated Kelly Oubre Jr.in game five, the Celtics should be prepared for the worst.
Wall is the leader in this postseason elimination game.
Celtics players Avery Bradley and Gerald Green both insisted that the fashion choice was not planned. Through three quarters he'd only attempted seven shots for 10 points but his teammates made their shots on the extra pass off the Wizards' scheme.
Boston continued to play with the lead for most of the quarter which ended with the Celtics ahead 69-66 going into the fourth. The third of those came via an acrobatic move in which he switched hands while in mid-air hanging underneath the basket, tying the game at 72.
